Citizenship education and intercultural approach: Analysis of the National Education Projects to 2021 and 2036
Abstract
The intercultural approach is a principle that is linked to the Law N° 28044 General Education Law which mentions the importance of its incorporation throughout the development of educational plans. This article focuses on the close relationship between citizenship education and the intercultural project, however, in practice there are differences in its application and political use. To this end, Catherine Walsh and Fidel Tubino propose three ways of addressing the intercultural approach: relational, functional and critical. Therefore, the research aims to identify the type of intercultural approach used in the citizenship education plan proposed in the National Education Projects (NEP) to 2021 and 2036. The methodology proposed corresponds to a qualitative approach, of a descriptive-analytical nature, making use of the documentary method. The results of the descriptive research show that while the PEN to 2021 uses a functional intercultural approach, the PEN to 2036 adopts a different perspective, with a critical intercultural approach.
